Gas mower recycling event this Saturday

Tacoma residents can recycle their gas mowers from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., this Saturday, April 17, at the City of Tacoma Recycling Center, located at the Tacoma Landfill, 3510 S. Mullen St.

All gas mowers turned in at the event will be donated to a Bates Technical College small engine repair class. After students learn about the engines, the metal from the mowers will be recycled.

Also, instead of a gas mower, try “grasscycling,” a natural approach to cutting grass using electric mulch mowers or push reel mowers. Electric mulch and push reel mowers chop grass clippings into tiny bits, which are left on the lawn to break down quickly and provide nutrients and moisture.

Part of Northwest Natural Yard Days, co-sponsored by Tacoma Solid Waste Management, these mowers and many other natural yard care products are discounted through May at Lowe’s and Home Depot.
