Eleven DUI arrests made in monthly emphasis patrol

Eleven impaired driving arrests were among 79 citations issued during a law enforcement emphasis patrol in University Place and Fircrest last Saturday.
Besides the impaired motorists, an individual was arrested for possessing cocaine with a street value of $1,600; 13 people were cited for criminal traffic violations, such as driving with their licenses suspended or possession of drug paraphernalia; and 50 were issued infractions such as speeding and seatbelt violations.
Two minors were arrested for possession of alcohol, and two licensed beverage locations were cited for selling to minors.
The emphasis patrol was dedicated to Leo and Mary Rita Dennehy, who were killed when an impaired driver hit them head-on. The driver was in a pick-up truck with a snowplow attached to the front.
The participating agencies included the Fife, Fircrest, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Puyallup, Puyallup Tribal, Roy and University Place police departments, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, Washington State Patrol and Washington State Liquor Control Board.
The Security Forces from McChord Air Force Base and Military Police from Fort Lewis conducted patrols on their respective bases.
The monthly emphases are coordinated by the Tacoma/Pierce County DUI Task Force and supported by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
