On Weds., Nov. 5, Market Street, from 9th to 7th Street, is scheduled to be closed from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. The closure, which is part of phase two of the Broadway Local Improvement District (BLID) project, is necessary for pave work to be completed. St. Helens Avenue from Market Street to Opera Alley will also be closed for paving during this time.
There will be no traffic allowed on Market or St. Helens while the paving is underway; detour signs will be in place to redirect traffic through the area. The paving will be completed at night in an effort to help mitigate the impact for local commuters.
The Broadway LID includes portions of Market Street and St. Helens Avenue, between South 9th and South 7th streets, together with portions of Broadway from South 9th Street northward towards South 2nd Street. Over the next two years, the area will undergo reconstruction and repair of sidewalks; the addition of ornamental street lighting and landscaping; construction of surface water, wastewater and water main utility replacement and the undergrounding of overhead utility wires.
