Crude oil fire on Port of Tacoma tideflats

Tacoma fire fighters responded Wednesday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. to reports of crude oil burning in a processing stack at the U.S. Oil and Refinery Company located in the 3000 block of Marshall Avenue on the Port of Tacoma tide flats. A section of Marshall Avenue near Port of Tacoma Road and Milwaukee Way was closed while fire fighters contained the blaze. By 9 a.m., a majority of the crude oil burned off, smoke had diminished, and collapse and explosion hazards were reduced, according to Tacoma Fire Department officials. There were no reports of injuries. Officials reported the incident was resolved at approximately 10 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
