Cross-Base Highway open houses set for next week

Pierce County is holding two open houses this month to give the public opportunity to comment on the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Cross-Base Highway connecting Interstate 5 in Lakewood and State Highway 7 in Spanaway.

The FEIS was issued Sept. 29, and written comments will be accepted until Nov. 14.

The open houses will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Woodbrook Middle School (cafeteria), 14920 Spring St., Lakewood, and Thursday, Oct. 16 at Camas Prairie Elementary School (multipurpose room), 320 176th St. E., Spanaway.

The FEIS is available for review at public libraries throughout Pierce County and for review or purchase at the Pierce County Public Works and Utilities Department in room 150 at the Public Services Building (County Annex), 2401 S. 35th St.

It is available in paper or CD-ROM versions. It also can be viewed online at:
www.piercecountywa.org/crossbasefeis.

Written comments can be submitted at the open houses or at the Public Works and Utilities office.

Last month’s release of the FEIS culminated more than a decade of work to develop the proposed four-lane highway project.

The Cross-Base Highway is aimed at eliminating a missing link in the region’s transportation system and providing improved access between the I-5 Corridor and the Mid-Pierce County area.
