Court delays WSP document release

The Washington State Court of Appeals this morning granted a temporary stay to delay the release of the documents from the Washington State Patrol administrative investigation, following a motion by members of Tacoma Police Management Association Local 26. The City of Tacoma had planned to release the documents later today.

The emergency stay will remain in effect until oral arguments on the motion for a stay are heard by the Court of Appeals at 9 a.m. on Oct. 5.

On Friday, visiting Pierce County Superior Court Judge Gary Tabor denied a motion filed by representatives for police union Local 26 to stay the release of documents from the Washington State Patrol administrative investigation and moved the release date for the documents to 4:30 p.m. today.

At that time, the city believed that members of Local 26 intended to appeal the Court’s order and renew their request for stay of the document release with the Court of Appeals before Monday’s release date.
