County road reopens after locomotive removed

Old Nisqually Road reopened Sunday after Union Pacific crews completed work related to removing two locomotives involved in a derailment and collision May 16.
Pierce County Road Operations crews were mobilized early Sunday to sweep the road and to complete temporary pavement repairs. Efforts to reopen the road to public travel were coordinated with Pierce County Department of Emergency Management, WSDOT, and Thurston County Public Works. Yesterday, crews conducted a thorough inspection of road features to determine the extent of damage in order to form plans for permanent repairs.
