County forum aims to help people with developmental disabilities

The Pierce County Self-Determination Forum to be held May 19 showcases opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to direct their own resourses and supports.

The 9 a.m. event at Pacific Lutheran University is open to parents, people with disabilities, self-advocates, providers, professionals, educators and community members. The keynote speaker, Dan Miller, a former principal and teacher from Yakima, will share his own story of overcoming physical adversity.

The forum is sponsored by Self-Advocates of Washington, the Community Inclusion Program, and Pierce County Human Services. Registration or scholarship information is available from Betty Johnston at bjohnston@washingtonpave.com or Sandy Trujillo at strujillo@washingtonpave.com or (253) 565-2266 (v/tty).
