County Council confirms new facilities director

The Pierce County Council on Tuesday, Jan. 17 confirmed Executive John W. Ladenburg’s appointment of Bret Carlstad as facilities management director. The appointment was effective Dec. 28.

Carlstad said in his response to the council that he appreciates the opportunity to be part of the Pierce County team. “I am very excited by the quality and caliber and enthusiasm of employees both within the facilities management department and across the county. The feeling is very positive and I am thrilled to be part of it,” he said.

Facilities Management has 59 employees and a $10.8 million operating budget. Its capital projects budget totals $24.2 million.

Carlstad served as director of planning, property, risk, safety, custodial services, and emergency services at the Edmonds School District. He received a bachelor of arts in business administration from Washington State University and a master of arts in public administration from Seattle University.
