Election of 2008 officers highlights the Pierce County Council’s first regular Tuesday meeting of the year Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. in the County-City Building in Tacoma.
Councilmembers will choose a chair, vice chair and executive pro tem. Leadership, membership and schedules of the council’s six standing committees will also be finalized.
The council chair presides at all regular council meetings, the vice chair presides in the absence of the chair, and the executive pro tem is a councilmember selected to perform the county executive’s duties in the event of the executive’s absence or temporary disability. However, the executive pro tem cannot appoint or remove any officer or veto any act of the council.
All council meetings are televised live on C-RCC (channels 22 or 78), streamed live on the channel’s Web site, rcc.pierce.wa.us, and replayed on the channel on Wednesday at 8 p.m., Thursday at 11 a.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m., Sunday at 5 p.m., and Monday at 8 a.m.
Other ways to view council meetings are:

Regular council meetings are on the 10th floor of the County-City Building, 930 Tacoma Ave. S., Rm. 1045. The council also conducts one meeting per year in each of the seven council districts, during which the chair may allow the councilmember representing that district to preside.
