Community Invited to Help Shape Future of Pierce County's Parks and Recreation

Community members in Pierce County are invited to offer their input about the county’s parks, recreation services and open space facilities via a 10-minute online questionnaire that will help the Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department determine the direction of parks and recreation for the next 10 to 20 years.

“We invite people from across the community-residents, businesses, youth, environmental and community groups-to provide their input about parks, trails, recreation centers and natural spaces,” said Skip Ferrucci, resource stewardship superintendent for the department.

Community input from the questionnaire will guide planners as Pierce County updates a new long-term plan for the park system. The Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan details the department’s efforts to acquire and develop parks and open spaces, and enhance and expand recreation programs.

“This is your chance to have an impact on one of the most important resources our community has to offer,” said Kathy Kravit-Smith, director of Parks and Recreation.

The questionnaire asks community members to provide input on existing and future parks and recreation facilities in their area, including parks, fields, courts, walking trails and pathways, recreation programs and events, and natural open spaces.

For those under 18, a second, youth-focused questionnaire is also available at the same Web site. “We especially encourage youth to let us know what they want to see in parks,” said Kravit-Smith.
