On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed amendments to the South Tacoma Groundwater Protection District Code, as recommended by the Planning Commission.

The meeting will be conducted in a hybrid format. To attend in person, the meeting will be held at the Tacoma Municipal Building in the Council Chambers, located at 747 Market Street, on the first floor. Council meetings are also available to watch live on TV Tacoma.
Oral comments will be taken during the City Council meeting. Those wishing to submit written comments may do so by email to the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerk@tacoma.gov or by mail at 747 Market Street, Tacoma, WA 98402, by 5:00 p.m., on Monday, August 11, 2025. Written comments will be compiled, sent to the City Council, and posted online.

City Council Public Hearing
South Tacoma Groundwater Protection District (STGPD) Code Update Public Hearing: Tuesday, August 12, 2025, no earlier than 5:15 PM.
Hearing Format: Hybrid (in-person and virtual)
Written Comments Due: Monday, August 11, 2025, by 5:00 p.m.
The South Tacoma Groundwater Protection District (STGPD) is a zoning overlay district established to protect the South Tacoma aquifer, a vital source of drinking water. The district regulates high-impact land uses, hazardous materials, and stormwater infiltration within its boundaries. The City is currently reviewing proposed updates to the code governing this district, as required by the State Growth Management Act and guided by City Council direction. The updates aim to strengthen protections for the South Tacoma aquifer. The City Council will hold a public hearing to receive public input on the proposed amendments, which were recommended by the Planning Commission. The hearing will be held during the
City Council meeting and will begin upon completion of the regular agenda items, no earlier than 5:15 p.m. The meeting will be held in a hybrid format and can be attended in person or via Zoom. Oral testimony may be provided at the City Council public hearing on August 12, 2025. Written comments may be submitted by email to cityclerk@tacoma.gov or by mail to City Clerk’s Office, 747 Market Street, Tacoma, WA 98402, and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025.
