The City of Tacoma is hosting a community information meeting at 6 p.m. on June 2 at the Lincoln High School Auditorium, 701 S. 37th St., about the expansion of the Community Based Services (CBS) program into the Eastside and the South End.
This program depends on and is only successful with community involvement in meeting the important goals of reducing crime and blight in the recently-defined area.
The CBS expansion includes the Dometop, Lincoln LAWG (Lincoln Area Watch Group), Lincoln South and Whitman neighborhoods and organizations including the Eastside Neighborhood Council, the McKinley Business District, the South End Neighborhood Council and TEAM (Tacoma’s Eastside Action Membership).
The goals for this area are to eliminate blight, reduce crime and increase community education and involvement, which directly supports the City of Tacomas goal of reducing crime by 50 percent and eliminating blight over a 14-month period citywide.
The CBS expansion will add a dedicated code enforcement officer, one community liaison police officer, and a program development specialist to the area, with full support from the City of Tacoma as a whole.
Citizens are being asked to attend this session with the CBS Team and representatives from various City of Tacoma departments to get an introduction to the program and how it works with the community in the lead. This session will address topics including geographic boundaries, resources, neighborhood cleanups and community education. Light refreshments will be available.
For more information, including a map of the new CBS area and a presentation on the expansion and an update on the existing CBS areas, visit http://www.cityoftacoma.org/cbs or contact Roxanne Murphy, (253) 591-2054, roxanne.murphy@cityoftacoma.org.
