The City Clerk’s Office is accepting applications through July 22, 2005, to fill the unexpired term for Council District No. 2 on the Tacoma City Council. The City Council will appoint someone to fill the seat of former City Council member Kevin Phelps through Dec. 31, 2005.

City Council members are required to appoint someone to fill the District No. 2 position within 60 days of July 8, 2005, which was the effective date of the resignation of former Council member Phelps.

Council District No. 2 encompasses Northeast Tacoma, the Port industrial area, Downtown and Old Town as well as portions of Tacoma’s North End. Anyone interested in applying for the open Council seat must be a City resident for two years prior to the time of the application, and since this is an appointment for a district position, applicants must be residents of the district for one year immediately preceding the time of the appointment.

Applications for the District No. 2 City Council seat and a map of Council District No. 2 can be obtained on the City’s Web site at http://www.cityoftacoma.org.
