Brame investigation: City manager, ex-chief's stories conflict

The city manager and a former police chief have given conflicting accounts about rape allegations against David Brame before he was named Tacoma’s police chief in 2001.

Ray Fjetland, who served as chief from 1988 until 1996, said he was never questioned about the allegations against Brame, who shot his estranged wife and then killed himself on April 26.

But City Manager Ray Corpuz, currently on paid administrative leave pending investigations into the case, said Fjetland told him a city employee claimed Brame date-raped her in 1988.
