“State Preservation AwardsA school in rural Lacamas, Thurston County, and two State Park officials from Thurston and Pierce County, have received awards from the State Historic Preservation Officer, Allyson Brooks.The awards are for historic rehabilitation, education, and career achievement, respectively. The awards are presented annually as the highlight of Historic Preservation Week, a national celebration of historic properties.The award for historic rehabilitation went to Dillard and Juanita Jensen, and Rick and Mary Johnson for the rehabilitation of the Lacamas School complex, which dates to 1913.The Year 2000 Education Award went to Dan Meatte, Washington State Parks State Archaeologist. Meatte has worked for over 25 years as an archaeologist in the Northwest, 10 with the state of Washington.David Hansen, Historic Preservation Officer with the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, received the career achievement award for his service to the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, as well as his dedication to preservation of historic properties for future generations.First Community Bank HiresMary Traxler has been hired as a vice president business banking manager for First Community Bank. Traxler has been in banking for 24 years and has been a commercial lending officer for the past 15.Nancy Joel has been hired as senior mortgage processor for the Hawk’s Prairie branch of First Community Bank. Joel has a number of years of mortgage loan experience.Holly Meador has been hired as a loan accounting specialist at the Hawk’s Prairie branch. Meador has previous local banking experience.Patty Brown has been hired as a mortgage shipper for the bank. She has several years of mortgage loan experience.Elizabeth Penny was recently hired as a central customer support representative for the bank. Penny previously worked in retail and clerical positions.Stephanie Rossow has been hired as a customer service representative for the Fircrest branch of First Community Bank. Rossow has several years banking experience.Holly Heustess has been hired as a customer service representative for the Eatonville branch of the bank. Heustess has worked previously in child care and customer service positions.B&B Association Takes New NameThe Bed and Breakfast Association of Tacoma and Mt. Rainier has announced a new name for their organization: TacomaInns.com.The name change allows the group to take advantage of their Internet presence, according to Greg Anglemyer, association president. Anglemyer said as much as half of the group’s guests locate member’s inns through the association web site, or individual inn sites.TacomaInns.com is a cooperative networking initiative representing some innkeepers in the Tacoma area. For travelers not on the web, there is a toll-free number at 1-888-593-6098.Columbia Dean’s ListColumbia University’s Columbia College has named Julie Bissell, of Tacoma, and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science has named Travis Scholtens of Lakewood to the Dean’s List.Citizen-Soldier NamedMaster Chief Petty Officer Robert Moser has been named the Howard O. Scott Citizen-Soldier of 2000.The award honoring a National Guard or Reserve member who excels in military and community service, was presented jointly by the Kiwanis Club of Tacoma and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce.Awards for McGowanMcGowan Advertising was awarded The Communicator Award of Distinction in the 2000 print media competition for work created with Mega Foods of Tacoma and JET Equipment and Tools in Auburn. Jennifer Adams, creative director, headed both projects.The award is for projects exceeding industry standards in communicating a message or idea.McGowan also was noted as a Silver Winner in the 2000 Summit Creative Awards competition for client, Jesse Engineering. Adams headed the Jesse account.The winning piece of artwork was for a corporate all-purpose folder to hold a variety of pieces for the engineering firm’s uses.McGowan is based in Lakewood.”
