6 new signs mark Tacoma's Tree City USA anniversary

Tacoma Urban Forester Ramie Pierce (above) recently announced six “Tree City USA” signs were installed throughout the city to celebrate Tacoma’s 15th year as a Tree City.

The signs are located along Pacific Avenue heading into Tacoma around South 96th Street; State Route 99 heading west into Tacoma from Fife; South Tacoma Way heading north into Tacoma from Lakewood; Bridgeport/Jackson Avenue heading north into Tacoma from University Place; 29th Avenue NE heading west into Tacoma from Federal Way; and Pioneer Way heading north into Tacoma. Three more signs could be added along I-5 and SR-16.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. It provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities. There are 3,310 communities that are currently Tree Cities.
