$539,716 grant would aid crime reduction initiatives

Members of the City Council are scheduled to hear the first reading of an ordinance Sept. 13 that would allow the City to accept $539,716 in federal grant funds for the 2005-2008 Edward M. Byrne Justice Assistance Grant for crime reduction initiatives. The funds would come from the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Programs, and would be divided equally between Pierce County and Tacoma.  Tacoma’s grant would support police missions, domestic violence advocacy services, the Family Justice Center and community-based programs.
