A $3 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) would cover 95 percent of the estimated funds needed for an FAA-mandated runway safety improvement area project at the Tacoma Narrows Airport. If approved by the City Council at the Oct. 4 meeting, the grant would help fund construction of phase three of the runway safety project, which is required to bring the airport up to the National FAA Design Standards for safety areas.
