The retail price for gas increased for the first time in four weeks, jumping 1.5 cents a gallon over the last week to $1.116, the Energy Department reported Monday.
The price of regular unleaded gasoline is down 33 cents from a year ago, according to the departments weekly survey of more than 800 service stations.
Prices for regular gasoline on the West Coast increased 1.6 cents, making the regions motor fuel the most expensive in the nation at $1.226 a gallon.
San Francisco is the highest in fuel costs among major cities at $1.245 a gallon.
