City Council members approved a $3 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Oct. 4 that will cover 95 percent of the estimated funds needed for an FAA-mandated runway safety improvement area project at the Tacoma Narrows Airport. The grant will help fund construction of phase three of the runway safety project, which is required to bring the airport up to the National FAA Design Standards for safety areas.
