Members of the City Council are scheduled Sept. 20 to hear the final reading of an ordinance that would allow the City to accept $539,716 in federal grant funds for the 2005-2008 Edward M. Byrne Justice Assistance Grant for crime reduction initiatives. The funds would come from the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Programs, and would be divided equally between Pierce County and Tacoma. Tacomas grant would support police missions, domestic violence advocacy services, the Family Justice Center and community-based programs.
