“A lion dance and other festivities will hail the Year of the Golden Dragon during the Lincoln International Business District’s ninth annual Tet Asian New Year celebration Saturday, February 5.The free street festival will run from 11:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The festivities begin on South 38th and G streets with a flag salute and a procession that will move up South 38th Street to Yakima Avenue.The festival includes a ceremonial lion dance at noon. Two local Vietnamese lion dance teams will light firecrackers hanging above Lincoln District businesses and the lion will dance there for good luck.Some business owners will treat festival-goers to candy and pass out balloons for the children.The celebration of the lunar New Year is one of the most celebrated holidays for Southeast Asian peoples and signifies a time for family reunion, thanksgiving, asking for blessings and preparing to begin a new life in the new year.”
