The City of Tacoma has appointed Jennifer Schreck as Historic Preservationist, effective Oct. 22. Schreck was appointed interim Historic Preservationist Sept. 5.
“We’re please to have found someone of Jennifer’s caliber,” said Culture and Tourism Manager Josie Emmons.
“Jennifer’s background gives her the skills necessary to work with the community and to continue the momentum of historic preservation in the City.”
Schreck’s historic preservation work includes Union Station and First Hill in Seattle, and the Chehalis downtown and residential historic districts.
“This position offers a variety of opportunities – from plan review to architectural style and design review,” Schreck said.
“Technical research combined with aesthetics have been a focus for me, and this is a strong match for Tacoma’s preservation needs.”
The Olympia native earned a Master’s of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Oregon and is a member of the City of Olympia Heritage Commission.
The Historic Preservation Officer works with the Landmarks Preservation Commission to identify, evaluate and nominate properties to the National and Tacoma Historic Registers, assists property owners seeking historical designation, and monitors historic districts and individual landmarks for conformance to established guidelines.
The Historic Preservation Officer reports to the Culture and Tourism Division Manager of the Tacoma Economic Development Department.
