City Council is scheduled Dec. 8 to hear the first reading of an ordinance that would amend the municipal code relating to taxi cab regulations. The revisions would require taxi cab drivers to submit a medical certification, attend a training program, pass a written exam prior to license approval and set penalties for classes of violations and standards for the denial of taxi cab licenses. The proposed changes bring the minimum amounts of insurance coverage up to industry standards, adds license denial reasons specifically relating to an applicant’s ability to operate a taxi cab and ensures that both the taxi cab and taxi driver sections of the municipal code have the same standards for a license denial.
