Lynne Griffith, Pierce Transit Chief Executive Officer, has been elected president of the Washington State Transit Association (WSTA). Griffith previously served the association as vice president, treasurer, and as a member of the legislative committee.
WSTA represents 25 transit agencies, state and local agencies, community organizations, as well as private businesses and consultants who provide services and products to the transit industry. The WSTA mission is to promote and improve public transportation, advocate legislation beneficial to public transit, and to foster the professional growth and development of transit management.
“Priority initiatives for my term include implementing an effective, statewide communication strategy that presents the benefits of public transportation. We will work with our transportation partners to help the state resolve congestion and freight mobility issues, and create effective transportation options to mitigate traffic problems during highway construction projects,” said Griffith. “I will engage the transit agencies in the state, regardless of their size or geographic location, to forge cooperative relationships that benefit the citizens of Washington State.”
Pierce Transit is the public transportation agency for Pierce County, Washington, providing the community with local and express bus service, vanpools, rideshare, and transportation for people with disabilities. Last year, the agency provided more than 15 million passenger trips.
