The Asia Pacific Cultural Center is inviting people to get dressed up and come to the first annual Bamboo Ball for an evening of dinner, music and dancing.
With the theme of seeing how all cultures are celebrated in one night, the Bamboo Ball is a fundraising event for the Asia Pacific Cultural Center.
Attendees are invited to come dressed in their native formal attire, or attire of a heritage of their choice – or, as a last resort – a tuxedo or evening gown.
The Bamboo Ball is set to take place this Friday, June 14, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight, at the Sheraton Convention Center.
The evening will begin with a reception in the Convention Centers rotunda, with dinner beginning at 7:15 p.m., followed by a performance by the Chinese Acrobatic Team, from Liaoning Province in mainland China.
This troop of acrobats is lead by Yan Jing Jiang, and is considered one of the best acrobatic teams in the world.
The Chinese Acrobatic Teams performance will be followed by an Asian dessert, and then by dancing to the music of popular Puget Sound dance band Filimaua.
Also, the Asia Pacific Cultural Center will formally announce the history making effort to initiate a capital campaign with the goal of purchasing a new home for the center, the current Tacoma Art Museum building.
The Tacoma Art Museum is moving into its new building in May 2003.
