For the first time ever – aviation enthusiasts can sport a “Fly Washington” license plate on their vehicle. The new specialty plate features a Boeing Stearman aircraft against the backdrop of Mount Rainier.

The aviation license plate is available for purchase online at Washington State Department of Licensing  or by visiting a local vehicle licensing office. From DOL’s website, customers can purchase or renew plates and calculate actual costs.

Revenues from the specialty plate will support aviation-specific initiatives. Specifically, $28 from each plate purchase and annual renewal will go towards:

– Airport infrastructure improvements to support statewide disaster response and recovery operations (examples: wildland fires, earthquake, landslide response).

– Economic development opportunities to enhance public access to airports, such as informational kiosks.

– Statewide aviation infrastructure-related awareness programs that promote public participation at airports.
