This year’s Hospice Yard Sale ran from June 24 to 27 and received more donations than ever before. Donations came from as far as Prince George one way and Terrace the other. “One hundred percent is donated and one hundred percent stays in the community,” volunteer organizer Ann Wilson said. Last year the yard sale made just over $26,000, but Wilson said that they have topped their previous amount every year so far. “Hopefully we’ll beat it again this year,” she said. Wilson said that when her mother in law fell ill years ago she and her sisters Cindy and Kathy realized how little there was in Houston for sick people, so they decided to start something up themselves. The first Hospice yard sale was held approximately nine years ago and it just evolved from there, Wilson said. At the very first yard sale they made around $400 and now they are making 65 times as much. “It’s all due to the people donating,” Wilson said. “I couldn’t do it without my sisters.” All of the proceeds from the yard sale will go to the hospice in Houston.
