Pierce County appraisers start work on 40,000 parcels

The Pierce County Assessor-Treasurer's Office announced recently it is conducting physical inspections of residential properties in eastern Pierce County. The area includes Alder Lake, Ashford, Buckley, Carbonado, Eatonville, Elbe, McKenna, Orting, South Prairie, Wilkeson and surrounding areas.

Washington state law requires the Pierce County Assessor-Treasurer's Office to physically inspect all properties once every six years. Pierce County is divided into six geographic areas to accommodate the physical inspection cycle.

Fouteen appraisers will be verifying land and building characteristics on approximately 40,000 parcels. The work could extend through next March.

Assessor-Treasurer Ken Madsen said it's important that residents be informed that county employees will be at work in their areas for an extended time period. The appraisers will have county identification and will be driving county vehicles with exempt license plates.

"Residents should ask our appraisers for identification if they have any concern," Madsen said.
