The ‘scariest half-mile’ hike returns for its sixth year
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Riverside State Park Foundation invite the public to get in the Halloween spirit with the sixth annual “Haunted Zombie Hike” in Riverside State Park near Spokane.
The annual pre-Halloween event takes place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Riverside State Park 7-Mile Airstrip, 7903 W. Missoula Rd., Nine Mile Falls.
Brave participants will trek through the haunted woods and get scared out of their hiking boots. Admission to the Haunted Zombie Hike is $10 for adults and children over the age of 10 and includes a flashlight. Admission for children under 10 is $5, and kids receive a glow-in-the-dark bracelet. Parental discretion is advised for young children. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Pets are not allowed on the trail.
The event is a fundraiser for the Riverside State Park Foundation, a non-profit organization formed to support the park. A Discover Pass will not be required for vehicle access to this event; the Foundation is covering the cost.
About the event: At this outdoor version of a haunted house, participants hike one-half mile through the woods, while volunteer “zombies” and hair-raising displays provide the scary atmosphere. Participants should be prepared to walk over uneven terrain and wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing. During the event, participants can enjoy a hot beverage or food at one of the trucks and get warm by the bonfire.
