WSP seeks witnesses to I-5 crash near Tacoma

The Washington State Patrol seeking witnesses to a one-vehicle accident that occurred Monday in southbound lanes of Interstate 5, just south of Port of Tacoma Road.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Auburn police officers attempted to stop a reportedly stolen Chevrolet Monte Carlo on southbound I-5 just south of the Federal Way scales. The suspect fled and the officers initiated pursuit, according to Gill. After passing the Port of Tacoma exit, the suspect swerved to the left, crossing all lanes, and entered the median where it struck the cable barrier. During the collision sequence, both the driver and passenger were ejected into the southbound lanes and seriously injured. Detectives are seeking witnesses that may have seen any of the events prior to and leading up to the pursuit and collision.
