Volunteers needed for Tacoma's Landmarks Preservation Commission

Tacoma City Council invites qualified individuals to apply for vacancies on the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The following positions are vacant:

— Professional: Open to individuals with documented professional experience or training related to historic preservation originating from employment or study within a related discipline, for the remainder of an unexpired term to end Dec. 31, 2012;

— At Large: Open to residents of Tacoma who have a demonstrated interest and familiarity with basic historic preservation issues, either through professional practice or volunteer work, for a three-year term to end on Dec.  31, 2014;

— Architect: Open to residents of Tacoma who are currently or have been in the past professionally certified architects, for a three-year term to end Dec. 31, 2014;

— Ex Officio – North Slope: Open to residents of Tacoma who are property owners or business owners located within the boundaries of the North Slope Historic Special Review District. Position serves in a nonvoting advisory capacity on matters relating to the North Slope, for a four-year term to end Dec. 31, 2015.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission oversees the establishment and regulation of landmarks, landmark sites and historic districts. Commission meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. The Commission is comprised of 11 citizen volunteers. Members are recommended for appointment by the Council Appointments Committee and confirmed by the City Council. For more information, visit http://www.tacomaculture.org .
