TV Tacoma garners six national awards

Excellence in government television programming earned TV Tacoma six more awards – bringing its overall total to more than 100.

At its annual conference, held in Chicago this year, the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) handed the station a first place, two second place and three third place awards.

The local government access station earned a first place award for coverage of the City of Destiny awards -a program honoring outstanding volunteers in the community.

That program received another first place award earlier this month from the City/County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA).

TV Tacoma also brought home second place awards in the Overall Excellence category and for “Decision 2001” in the Election Coverage category.

The entry included excerpts of the channel’s live general election night coverage, as well as clips from the Video Voters Pamphlet and primary returns.

Third place awards went to the station for coverage of the Golden Gloves boxing event, a story package on the Wastewater Utility’s mini bond sale and for “Behind the Shield,” which focuses on public safety information and provided an in-depth look at the state of police facilities and operations.
