TCC program geared toward managers and supervisors

Tacoma Community College is offering a supervision and management program useful to experienced managers working towards career progression, as well as to current and potential supervisors and managers with little or no supervisory training.

Course offerings include Basic Training for New Supervisors, Supervisors and the Law, Supervising the Problem Employee, Supervising Employee Training, Supervision and Group Behavior, Management Communications, Public Relations, Managerial Excellence, Leadership Dynamics, Motivation and Productivity, Organizational Behavior, Managing for High Performance, and Valuing Cultural Diversity. Additional courses, such as Professional Ethics, are in development.

Basic and advanced performance and solution-based principles are presented in an interactive environment with a focus on experiential learning and knowledge application.

Supervision and management courses are offered on TCC’s main campus or at the college’s Tacoma Mall site. On-site customized training is also Available.

“The program helped me learn to communicate with people at all levels, how to problem solve and how to be an effective leader,” said Esther Loyer, who enrolled after being promoted to manager of 45 employees. Loyer went on to start her own business.

“These courses are designed to enable participants to impact workplace contributions and behavior quickly,” said Wayne Williams, TCC associate vice president for enterprise and workforce development. The six-module non-credit certificate program allows for course selection that meets individual and organizational needs.
