Tacoma seeks artists to expand Municipal Art Collection

Are you a local artist who would like your work included in the City of Tacoma’s Municipal Art Collection? If so, the City would like to hear from you.

Applications are being accepted from professional artists living in Washington State’s Pierce, King, Kitsap or Thurston counties who would like their artwork to be considered for purchase by the City of Tacoma and added to an existing collection of more than 240 pieces of public art. Artists are encouraged to submit applications for portable two-dimensional and small-scale, three-dimensional pieces that fall within certain eligibility guidelines. The City plans to spend as much as $20,000 on artwork, with no single piece costing more than $3,000.

Portable pieces of artwork in the City’s Municipal Art Collection are installed in public spaces throughout City buildings with the goal of improving the quality of the work environment, creating community dialogue, and supporting local artists. “Artwork enlivens public spaces, celebrates the diversity of our citizens, and underscores the City’s commitment to supporting a vibrant community,” said City of Tacoma Arts Administrator Amy McBride.

The deadline to apply expires on Thurs., July 30. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org/artsopps and here.
