Tacoma seeks $27M in grants for 11 transportation improvement projects

The City of Tacoma’s Public Works Department recently applied for 11 grants totaling nearly $27 million to help pay for a variety of transportation improvement projects.

Among the big-ticket grant requests:

The grants, which would require approximately $4.2 million in local matching funds, were made to the Puget Sound Regional Council and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Bridge Replacement Advisory Committee (BRAC).

Last year, the City of Tacoma landed 16 grants totaling $31 million for 12 transportation improvement projects.

PROJECT: Puyallup Avenue Corridor Study. DESCRIPTION: Conduct planning study for improvements to Puyallup Avenue from Portland Avenue to Pacific Avenue. GRANT REQUEST: $692,000. LOCAL MATCH: $108,000. MATCH SOURCE: Gas Tax. FUNDING AGENCY: Puget Sound Regional Council (Regional).
