Student wins $2000 photography scholarship

Professional Photographers of Washington are happy to announce the winner of the Student Photographer of the Year Scholarship. The $2000 scholarship will be awarded to: Sailor Rozema of Burlington Edison High School (Burlington, WA). Sailor is a senior graduating in 2019 and was selected from applications submitted by student photographers representing schools throughout Washington State.

Sailor Rozema will receive a $2000 Scholarship grant, which will be used to further her study in the photographic arts. Sailor plans on attending a 4 year University where she will major in Communications and Minor in Photography. She hopes to one day work for a non-profit as a photographer. The scholarship will be presented to Sailor at her high school in front of her family, fellow students and peers.

Students applied for this scholarship, presenting an application, which included a portfolio of their work, a personal essay and two recommendations from teachers or mentors in photography. Members of the Professional Photographers of Washington juried the applicants.

Dane Williams of Mount Vernon High School (Mount Vernon), and Georgia Mallett of Ellensburg High School (Ellensburg) rounded out our top 3 finalists. Also note the following students who were selected for our top 6 finalists: Cosette Clum of Federal Way High School (Federal Way), Rose Robinson of Cascade High School (Leavenworth), and Derek Tresner of Central Valley High School (Spokane Valley).

These top finalists were singled out for their high achievement in the photographic field, scholastic studies, and the student’s wish to further their studies in the photographic arts.

The Professional Photographers of Washington applaud these schools for their quality teaching in the photographic arts and preparing their students for their future careers.
