“Franciscan HR VP NamedFranciscan Health System has announced the appointment of Jim Walker as the health system’s new vice president of human resources. Walker assumed the position February 14.Walker brings over 23 years of experience in health care human resources leadership positions to Franciscan. He is responsible for Franciscan’s human resources and education departments.Prior to joining Franciscan, Walker served as vice president of Human Resources at Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls, Montana. Before that, Walker worked as vice president of Human Resources at St. Joseph Health Services in Providence, Rhode Island and in a similar capacity at St. Joseph’s Mercy of Macomb in Mount Clemens, Michigan. He has also served as associate director of Human Resources for The Ohio State University Hospitals in Columbus, Ohio.Pierce Transit Board MembersTacoma City Council members Sharon McGavick and Kevin Phelps have been appointed to Pierce Transit’s Board of Commissioners, replacing outgoing board members Bill Baarsma and Paul Miller.McGavick is president of Clover Park Technical College and serves on local boards including the Economic Development Board of Tacoma-Pierce County and the Tacoma Arts Commission.Phelps owns the Landmark Convention Center and Temple Theater in downtown Tacoma. He is active in the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tacoma-Pierce County.Community Volunteers SoughtThe Tacoma City Council is seeking three new volunteers to join the 11-member committee that advises the Council on how to divide millions of dollars in funds for community service programs each year.Last year, the Urban Policy Committee allocated over $7 million in federal and local funds for community service and housing development programs. Applicants must reside within Tacoma city limits. No special experience is required.The committee meets at 5:45 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in room 601 of the Tacoma Municipal Building.Applications are due March 19.
