“The Washington Professional Photographers Association Board of Directors has named Scott Bourne, principal at Scott Bourne Photography & Digital Imaging, based in Tacoma, the first president of the association.“The WPPA’s five-fold mission will be to educate the public about professional photography, protect the public from unscrupulous individuals posing as professional photographers, to provide our members with marketing assistance, to lobby the legislature when laws affecting the photographic profession are at issue and to act as a mentor to Washington’s 450 professional photographers who wish to continue their education through photographic seminars and demonstrate their excellence through print competition,” Bourne said.The WPPA Web site at www.wppa.net, provides consumers with a database of Washington professional photographers. The site also will list tips for choosing a photographer, lists of recent WPPA award winners and special member-only areas.Bourne received five awards recently at the Pierce County Professional Photographers Association’s 1999 Semi-Annual Print Competition. Karen Wolfe, a photographer with the Scott Bourne Studio, received two print merits and a Best of Portrait Category award.Bourne received three blue ribbons at the event. Bourne also took the Best of Unclassified Category award with a photograph of a Nevada sunset, and was also judged Best of Show.The print competition consists of three categories: wedding, portrait and unclassified. The photo collection of the highest scoring prints from the competition is exhibited in Pierce County libraries, schools and government buildings throughout the year.The county competition is held prior to state and national contests.”
