Prosecutor: Spanaway parents shot up kids with heroin

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist, on Wednesday, Oct. 31, charged Ashlee Rose Hutt, 24, with three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance to a person under age 18 for injecting her own children with heroin. The Spanaway mom was  also charged with three counts of criminal mistreatment in the second degree and three counts of assault of a child in the second degree.

On Nov. 10, 2015, three children, ages six, four, and two, were removed from the home of their parents, Ashlee Hutt and Leroy “Mac” McIver. McIver was charged with the same crimes in September.

Investigators from Child Protective services reported multiple individuals lived at the residence and everyone was using heroin. They made a determination that abuse and neglect of the children had occurred. They noted marks, cuts, and bruises on one child’s body. They also noted the bruises appeared to be injection marks with bruising.

The six-year-old told investigators that he said he and his siblings were choked by McIver on more than one occasion.  He also said his mom and dad give him and his sisters the “feel good medicine,” which he described as a white powder mixed with water. His parents, he said, used a needle to inject him and his sisters and the medicine put them to sleep.

According to the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab, the two-year-old’s hair follicles tested positive for heroin. The four-year-old also had signs of heroin in her system but the level did not meet the threshold for a positive test. The six-year-old tested negative.

Both Hutt and McIver admitted to being heroin users when interviewed.

Hutt’s bail is set at $100,000.00
