Port of Tacoma Road: Open house Dec. 15 for $9.2M reconstruction project

The City of Tacoma and the Port of Tacoma will host an open house this month to share information about a $9.2 million project to reconstruct a nearly-1.5-mile section of Port of Tacoma Road.

According to City and Port officials, the road serves as the main truck route into the Port of Tacoma industrial area, and is currently in poor condition. The project aims to replace approximately 7,800 feet of Port of Tacoma Road (between East 11th Street to Marshall Avenue) with concrete to better withstand heavy truck traffic.

Crews conducted preliminary work on the project last year. City and Port officials held the first open house for the project in January. Construction is expected to begin during spring 2015 and finish during winter 2015.

During the open house this month, City and Port staff will discuss design drawings and traffic control plans with visitors. The open house will be held on Mon., Dec. 15, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., at the Fabulich Center (Room 104), located at 3600 Port of Tacoma Road. More information is available online here and here.
