Paving begins next week on TNB

Marching toward completion in July, crews on the new Narrows Bridge project will begin paving the bridge deck next week.

The work requires intermittent weekday closures of the eastbound State Route 16 off-ramp to Jackson Avenue, the first exit on the Tacoma end of the Narrows. Ramp closures start next week and continue through the end of June.

Closing the Jackson Avenue off-ramp allows paving crews efficient access to the bridge deck. To avoid interfering with the morning commute, crews will not close the ramp before 9 a.m.

The frequency and duration of the closures are dependent upon a number of factors, including weather and other work activities on the new span. Drivers are advised to plan ahead for ramp closures and pay attention to closure-alert signs on the highway.
