Introducing the South Sound’s next 2020 Olympic hopeful, Sailor Hanne Weaver

TACOMA, Wash. –  Gig Harbor native and sailor Hanne Weaver is aspiring to represent the South Sound in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Weaver is currently working towards securing a place at 2018 World Cup this July in Denmark—the last stop before the 2020 Olympics.

Weaver has been racing in regattas since she was just eight years old. After years of training and dedication, she began competing in larger regattas and gaining recognition around the world. Her goal is to compete in at least three Olympic Games over her career.

“I know my race to the Olympics won’t be easy,” Weaver says. “However, knowing that I have the opportunity to represent the South Sound in Tokyo is definitely worth the blood, sweat, and tears.”

Weaver has received awards from prestigious organizations, such as Seattle Yacht Club and Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.
