Future of MLK neighborhood discussion May 24

The City of Tacoma will host a community open house on Thurs., May 24 at 6 p.m. to discuss the Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. Neighborhood Subarea Plan.

The city is currently working with residents, businesses and property owners to prepare a Subarea Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the neighborhood. The completed Plan and EIS are intended to encourage development and economic revitalization in the MLK District, located in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood. This project will establish a vision for future public and private investments in the MLK District and will integrate these investments with the needs of current residents, businesses and property owners.

Individuals who attend the community meeting this month will have the opportunity to review and comment on the key issues and community priorities that have been identified, as well as potential strategies that could be used to achieve the goals of the community. The event will be held at Evergreen State College Tacoma Campus, 1210 6th Avenue, Room 105 (Lyceum Hall).
