DUI patrol to focus on Puyallup

On June 30, the Puyallup Police Department will be joined by the Washington State Patrol and Fife, University Place and Lakewood police departments for a DUI emphasis patrol in Puyallup. Puyallup Sgt. Bob Thompson said officers will be hitting the streets starting about 8:30 p.m.

“We will have some of our county’s most experienced DUI officers patrolling Saturday night. No one should drink and drive. But if you’re impaired Saturday night, chances are you will be caught,” Thompson said.

The patrol was scheduled for this weekend because of the increased number of impaired drivers expected because of Fourth of July celebrations. Officers will be targeting impaired drivers by observing moving violations such as reckless driving, speeding, and aggressive driving.

Individual law enforcement agencies are footing the overtime to make the patrols possible. The monthly patrols are sponsored by the Tacoma-Pierce County DUI Task Force.
