County seeks volunteers to help elderly

Pierce County Long Term Care Ombudsman program is seeking volunteers to become certified ombudsmen for the aging and long term care population in Pierce County. Orientation will begin Sept. 2 at the Pierce County Human Services campus at 3580 Pacific Ave. in Tacoma.

Housed in the Aging and Long Term Care Division of Pierce County Human Services, the Ombudsman Program staff and certified volunteers work in nursing homes, adult family homes, and boarding homes to advocate for the elderly. Under the regional long term care ombudsman, certified volunteer ombudsmen are a listening ear and a voice for residents of long-term care settings. Ombudsmen educate residents, staff, families, and the community about long-term care issues, resources, resident rights, and quality of life in long-term care.
