Construction continues on Bates Tech's $23M Advanced Technology Center

Construction continues on the new $23 million Advanced Technology Center at Bates Technical College in Tacoma.

Officials broke ground on the two-story, 53,000-square-foot building, located at 2320 S. 19th St., a year ago in March (see “Bates Technical College breaks ground on $23M Advanced Technology Center,” Tacoma Daily Index, March 27, 2014; and “Bates Technical College to break ground on Advanced Technology Center,” Tacoma Daily Index, March 14, 2014).

When completed later this year, the facility will include meeting spaces for events, trade shows, and conferences, as well as a large studio lab that officials say will serve as an iconic element the public will be able to view from South 19th Street.

The building was designed by McGranahan Architects to meet silver certification standards from the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.

The Advanced Technology Center is being built on the college’s Central/Mohler Campus, which is also home to KBTC Public Television and Pierce County Television.
