Representatives of TAPCO Credit Union (pictured) were at City Hall Oct. 27 as the City of Tacoma officially proclaimed that day “TAPCO Credit Union Day.” The honor marks the organization’s 75th anniversary. The non-profit financial institution was established the same year when the credit union movement began during President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “New Deal.” President Roosevelt signed The Federal Credit Union Act into law on June 26, 1934. Also that year, TAPCO was founded by nine City of Tacoma employees.
