Citizens wanted for Charter Review Committee

Citizens who want to serve on the committee that will go through Tacoma’s city charter with a fine-tooth comb can apply through Oct. 1.

After reviewing the applications, each of the nine City Council Members will recommend one person to serve on the Charter Review Committee, and the Appointments Committee will select an additional four members. The Appointments Committee expects to announce its selections after its Oct. 27 meeting.

The Charter Review Committee will take an in-depth look at the City’s existing charter and provide recommendations to the City Council by May 18. The Council would then submit proposed changes to the Pierce County Auditor’s office for a special municipal election in November.

Tacoma residents who want to take part in the Charter Review Committee may download an application at www.cityoftacoma.org/51Gov/cbcs.htm or pick one up from the City Clerks Office at the Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market St., Room 238.
